The Cartel clock is a spring-driven wall clock in an ornate, richly decorated cartouche-shaped case, mostly made of fire-gilt cast bronze. The most striking, beautiful and valuable Cartel clocks manifest the heyday of the kings Louis XV (Rococo) and Louis Seize (Classicism).
This concept continued to be worked on in Austria, Sweden and Switzerland, but without achieving the popularity of the originals. The imitations usually only had watch cases carved from wood and covered with gold leaf.
