Iron family chest from bourgeois family property; end of the 17th century
Weight approx. 80 kg, length 65cm, width 50cm, height 64cm
This very beautiful safe made of clad and riveted iron has retained its original polychromy on and in the rectangular body. Oxide red & gold, decorated with flowers and garlands on a gold background as well as partially gold-plated tendril decorations and rivets. Partial traces of a former monochrome, blue painting. It has a complex locking system that is operated by a single turn of the key, a 7-pin lock under the lid, which is covered by a painted iron sheet with a depiction of Melusina with a tuba, flanked by two tree-covered hills. Wrought iron and movable carrying handles on the sides, two coupling rings connected to the lid at the front for two different padlocks that ensure greater security. The box is flanked at the bottom left and right by the family coat of arms. The coat of arms shows the black tree trunk with branches on the sides, with blazing flames on top, flanked by two red spur wheels.
