During the restoration of the portraits of Johanna Esther Tillier and Johann Georg Ernst II, extensive work was undertaken to restore the works of art to their original splendor. First, chips in the frames were filled, gilded, retouched, and patinated. The varnish on the paintings was then reduced and cleaned both dry and wet to remove dirt and debris. Oil chips were fixed and carefully retouched. A hard oil varnish was then applied to protect and revive the colors. Finally, the paintings were secured in the frames to ensure their stability and their wonderful presentation.
