Upholstery and curtains in Bern
We reupholster, repair, and clean seating furniture — both historic and modern. Additionally, we offer custom-made curtains, wall coverings, leather care, and refurbishment. Simple tasks are performed in our own workshop, while specialized assignments are handled by experienced upholsterers. Ostermundigen near Bern, since 2012.
What we do and how
We upholster seating furniture — historical period furniture as well as contemporary sofas, armchairs, and chairs. We re-cover, re-upholster, repair existing upholstery, and clean. Additionally, we sew and shorten curtains, custom-make cushions and slipcovers, undertake wall coverings, and care for leather. For historical pieces, we work with traditional materials such as jute, horsehair, and spring steel, and for modern furniture with high-quality foams.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the approximate cost of upholstery work?
Reupholstering an armchair typically costs between CHF 800 and 2,500, a completely rebuilt upholstered piece between CHF 2,500 and 6,000, and a historic sofa with high-quality upholstery fabric between CHF 4,000 and 12,000. Fabric costs vary greatly and are not included. We will provide a binding quote after inspection.
Is upholstery or new furniture worthwhile?
Good old hardwood frames almost always have padding—the material is more durable than in most new armchairs. For furniture from the 1970s or later, the answer is not clear-cut and will be decided together with you.
How long does upholstery work take?
A simple re-upholstery takes 20 to 40 hours, a complete upholstery build-up 40 to 80 hours, a historical sofa 60 to 120 hours. Workshop turnaround is typically 4 to 10 weeks, depending on order volume and fabric availability.
Can I bring my own fabric?
Yes. We check suitability briefly before we start – some fabrics are technically unsuitable for upholstery, especially very thin or elastic fabrics. We also help with fabric selection and provide samples from our supplier collections.
Are you picking up the furniture?
Yes. Collection is free in the city of Bern and its agglomeration. For orders in the extended catchment area, we calculate transport individually. A quick appointment is all it takes.
Do you also clean curtains and upholstery?
Yes, we clean upholstery, curtains and carpets – either as ongoing maintenance or in preparation for restoration. We take care of minor repairs at the same time.
Do you have an upholstery, curtain, or wall covering in mind?
Send us photos and a brief description. We will get back to you within two business days with an initial assessment and discuss the next steps with you.
