Rhadama butterfly - Junonia rhadama

Junonia rhadama, also known as the "Rhadama butterfly" or "Rhadama eye butterfly", is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae, subfamily Nymphalinae. Here is some information about this butterfly:

Description:
The Junonia rhadama is a medium-sized butterfly with a wingspan of about 40 to 50 millimeters. The wings have a striking coloration and are characterized by their distinctive eyespots.

Characteristics:
The upperside of Junonia rhadama's wings shows a variation of brown and orange tones with darker markings. The characteristic eyespots on the wings serve to deter and confuse potential predators. The underside of the wings is often lighter and has a similar pattern to the upperside.

Distribution and habitat:
Junonia rhadama is native to various parts of Africa, particularly regions of Madagascar, the Comoros, Mauritius and Réunion. The butterfly inhabits a variety of habitats, including open grasslands, scrubland, gardens and forest edges.

Way of life:
The caterpillars of Junonia rhadama feed on various plants, including members of the Acanthaceae family. The butterflies are diurnal and often fly slowly near ground vegetation. Their striking coloring and eyespots serve not only as a protective mechanism, but also for communication with conspecifics.

Protection status:
Although the Rhadama butterfly is not critically endangered, it could be affected by habitat loss, environmental change and land use. Some populations could be locally threatened, particularly if their habitats are degraded.
